Guide to Sportsman's Stash
Everything you need to buy, sell and trade used outdoor gear safely and legally.
1. Getting started
Who can join
You must be at least 18 and live in the United States to buy or sell. One account per person; keep your login private.
Your profile
Profile & Settings lets you turn on bundle deals, control data sharing, and choose which emails you get. Your public profile shows your ratings and badges.
2. Buying gear
Find it
Search or browse by category, then filter by condition, price and gear specs like draw weight, gear ratio or lumens. Tick “Compare” on up to 3 listings in the same category to see them side by side.
Check out
Pay by card through our secure checkout (Stripe). You'll see the item price, shipping and the Platform Fee before you pay; sales tax is added where required.
Confirm
When your gear arrives, inspect it and confirm receipt on your Orders page. If tracking shows it was delivered, we confirm it for you and you still get 3 days to report a problem.
3. Selling with StashSnap AI
List in seconds
On the Sell page, tap “Take photo” to use your phone camera or upload photos. StashSnap AI suggests the title, category, brand, condition, specs and a fair price. Always check its suggestions, because you're responsible for an accurate listing.
Be accurate
Describe condition honestly and show flaws in the photos. Use your own photos; copied or AI-generated product images are flagged.
Ship it
Choose live carrier rates (we create a prepaid label when it sells and email you) or a flat shipping price. Ship within 3 business days with tracking.
Get paid
Earnings are held until the Buyer Protection window closes without a claim, then become available for payout. Standard sellers pay 0% commission.
4. Bundles & offers
Bundles
If a seller turns on bundle deals, you can add several of their items to one bundle and get their bundle discount. Everything ships together in one package for a single shipping charge.
Offers
Make an offer on a single item or on a whole bundle. The seller can accept, counter or decline. An accepted offer locks in your price at checkout.
5. Fees & payments
Platform Fee
Buyers pay a small Platform Fee based on the item price only, never on shipping, and before sales tax. It's shown on every listing and in your price breakdown, and it's refunded in full whenever an order is refunded.
Taxes
Marketplace sales tax is calculated and collected at checkout where state law requires it.
Pay on platform only
Never pay or accept payment by Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, wire or check. Off-platform payments aren't protected and break our Terms.
6. Shipping & local pickup
Live rates & labels
For live-rate listings, the buyer picks a carrier rate at checkout and the seller gets a prepaid label automatically. Tracking updates the order for both of you.
Local pickup
Use the Meetup scheduler to agree a time and a public place, such as a busy store lot or a police safe-trade zone, in daylight. Inspect before you confirm, because local pickups are final once confirmed.
7. Buyer Protection, claims & refunds
What's covered
Item not as described, damaged, missing parts, wrong item, or never arrived. Open a claim from your Orders page before confirming receipt or within 3 days after.
What's not
Changing your mind, sizing mistakes when measurements were given, or flaws clearly shown in the photos.
Refunds
Approved claims are refunded in full (item, shipping and Platform Fee) to your original payment method, usually after the item is returned.
8. Staying safe
Watch for scams
We flag messages that ask you to pay off-platform, share codes or click strange links. Report anything suspicious from the listing or message.
New accounts
New accounts have purchase limits and higher-risk listings may be reviewed before going live. This keeps everyone safer.
9. Legal rules every member must follow
Prohibited items
No firearms, receivers, suppressors, ammunition, primers, powder or explosives; no switchblades, gravity, ballistic or disguised knives where restricted; no live animals or protected wildlife parts (Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Lacey Act); no counterfeits, recalled safety gear, stolen goods or items with removed serial numbers.
Know your local law
Some legal items, such as certain knives, bows, optics, fuel containers, or game calls, are restricted by state or local law or by carrier rules. Sellers must check the law where they ship from and where the buyer is, and buyers must be allowed to own what they buy.
Shipping hazardous items
Don't ship fuel, batteries above carrier limits, compressed gas (CO₂, propane), or pressurized items unless the carrier allows it and they're packed as required.
Taxes & income
You may need to report sales income. If you hit IRS reporting thresholds, our payment provider may issue a Form 1099-K.
Your data
We follow our Privacy Policy and state privacy laws (including California and Virginia). You can access or delete your data and control data sharing in Profile & Settings.
